Tour of Britain and KBR Wireless Networks
The Tour of Britain is said to be Britain’s biggest professional cycling race, covering almost 1,500km of the country across eight regional stages, beginning in Liverpool and ending in London.
In September 2015, KBR Wireless Networks working for event organisers SweetSpot Group, introduced public Wi-Fi as a spectator service to help generate excitement and interest in the major outdoor cycling event. KBR provided the event with two separate public and staff/media Wi-Fi services.
In an infrastructure that used Meru hardware, the GlobalReach Wi-Fi AAA RADIUS and captive portal platform was chosen as the supporting software to allow users’ devices onto the service, and to provide the event management team and sponsors with information about user patterns. Users were authenticated to the public Wi-Fi service using a guest Wi-Fi captive portal, allowing login with social media credentials.
